Before I move here, I used to live in Aceh and Medan. Well, today I'm gonna share some food in Medan. Medan is known as culinary city and I admit it that's super true. I will tell you some of good food I've ever tried and I'm craving for some while I am writing this blog.
Mie Ata
Been being a fan since senior high school. The seller sold this noodle in Banda Aceh for years and moved to Medan after the tsunami disaster. It is sold every morning as breakfast. The noodle is homemade and it is served with minced pork, parsley and fried onion. You can also request for dumplings. It only costs Rp 9,000.
Location : Jalan Metal 2, Medan. (Clue : you'll see a cart and the name is "Mie ATA"
Ikan Goreng Kejaksaan
Actually, this is only fried fish but the special thing is in the chili; the spicy green chili which is so good. The serving has a plate of hot rice, the fried fish and the green chili. You can ask for pounded cassava leaves too. The price for this dish is Rp 2x,000.
Location : Jalan Kejaksaan (beside Tong's Soya Bean)
Babi Panggang Karo (Grilled Pork ala Karo Style) Robema
This is one of the famous and crowded Grilled Pork in Medan. Served with a plate of hot rice, pounded cassava leaves and pork blood sauce. Don't worry, it's been cooked and has been seasoned with some herbs. You should try this yummy dish!
Location : Kompleks Multatuli Indah, Jalan Haji Misbah No 55, Medan (Behind Shanghai Resto)
Spicy Mushroom (Food Print Cafe)
If you crave for spicy snack for your afternoon snack time, you should try one of the dish from Food Print Cafe. Spicy Mushroom! If you dare, try the spiciest level. You may try other dish that are served in this cafe.
Location : Kompleks Multatuli Indah Blok AA No. 41 Medan
Bihun Bebek Atak (Rice Vermicelli With Shredded Duck)
Located in Kompleks Cemara Asri, open every 7am - 9pm. Served with boiled rice vermicelli, shredded duck, vegetables and fried garlic then poured with herbal soup. Too good to be missed!
Location : Kompleks Cemara Asri Jalan Cemara Asri Boulevard H - 119 Medan
Mie Kangkung Balacan (Balacan Kangkong Noodle)
There are so many places which sell this menu, but this one is my favourite. Seafood mie kangkung belacan. The taste perfectly blends in your mouth. The place isn't stunning like other places but who cares if you can taste this yummy dish.
Location : Pasar Ramai - Medan (the exact place is a bit further from the main entrace, but you'll meet CD player nearby the place)
Bakmi Awai
Have I told you that I'm a noodle lover? You may think of it when you see that I tried so many kind of noodle dishes. This one is Bakmi Awai, which is quite legendary too. You may ask for pork or chicken for your noodle's friend. What I love from this noodle is the soup. So perfect to explain.
Location : Jalan Wahidin No. 4H Medan
Tahu Isi Adam Malik (Fried Tofu filled with vegetables)
Just a fried tofu which unbelieveably tastes so crispy and yummy. The tofu itself is filled with some vegetables then it is deep fried. It is served with special sauce. You won't believe that the place where it sells is just a small cart beside the road. So the view you can see while enjoying the tofus are cars going there and there. No matter what, this place is famous and always crowded.
Location : Jalan Adam Malik, Medan.
La Maison
Medan has so many good desserts to be tasted. La Maison is one of them. It serves pattiserrie and macarons which are so famous and a must place to visit for me when I go there to travel.
Check the menu over here.
Location : Jalan Biduk no. 66 Medan
Bolu Gulung Meranti (Roll Cake)
The famous and legendary roll cake. Serving hundreds (or maybe thousand) of roll cakes, it is undoubtedly known that the taste is really undeniable. Super moist and yummy. There are so many flavours to try. And this place is super crowded. So you've got to be patient to get one.
Location : Jalan Kruing no. 2K Medan / Jalan Sisingamangaraja no. 19B Medan / Kuala Namu International Airport
There are more food I haven't tried in Medan due to my time and no holiday schedule to Medan. If you plan to go to Medan, you may try some of my suggestions. I hope I can share more to you.
